About

My name is Katie Azarow, and I am a licensed clinical social worker and certified drug and alcohol counselor. I completed my graduate school education at University of Nebraska, Omaha, and have been in the helping profession, in some capacity, since 2009. Over the past 12 years, I have found and settled into my passion of helping individuals achieve their goals through psychotherapy. I enjoy working with a wide range of individuals, but specifically am enthusiastic about working with teenagers and young adults. The challenges, transitions and major life decisions faced during these years, as well as the way we respond to such, help us to determine who we are as individuals and what we want our life path to look like. Therapy can help to ensure a solid path as we enter into a new phase of life. I love being part of this exploration and growth process for my clients.

When I am not in session, you can find me engaging in a broad range of self-care and personal growth activities, from riding horses, boxing, spending time with friends and family, exploring Portland's amazing restaurant scene,  to playing with my pets. After growing up in a military family, and moving several times, I am going on my eighth year living in Oregon and try to mindfully embrace the beauty that surrounds me on a daily basis!

 Services

consultation

I offer a free 45 minute consultation session. During this appointment, we will learn more about one another, to determine if working together would be a good fit.  I will provide information related to what working together would look like. I hope to answer your questions during this time, and, if you decide you would like to build a working relationship, we will address possible goals for treatment, as well as estimated length of treatment.

ASSESSMENT

During your assessment, I will gather a great deal of information about your history and current symptoms. We will create a treatment plan, which I consider a living document, meaning, it can change, based on your needs, at any time. By the end of your assessment, we will have a solid handle on your treatment goals, as well as how we'll achievethose goals.

Individual therapy

Individual sessions are scheduled on the hour and run for 50 minutes. During your consultation, we will address the frequency of services, although it is helpful to know that therapy is most effective when occurring regularly. With that in mind, I typically recommend weekly, or biweekly sessions. For many, as therapy comes to a close, individuals often choose to engage in "booster" type sessions, occurring less frequently, such as once per month, to facilitate a smooth transition out of services.

Family therapy

Family sessions can be beneficial in helping clients share insight and skills learned with their family members. Many clients find it useful to engage their family members in the therapeutic process in order to allow for greater change to occur. However, this is optional and based on client needs, and may or may not be recommended as part of a treatment plan.
